Published Authors Among our Ranks

With permission from the author's we've republished two articles that recently appeared in other publications.

Kent R. Hart, Executive Director, Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and Research and Writing Attorney, Utah Federal Public Defender's Office and Troy Rawlings, Davis County Attorney recently published the article The Need for Legislation to Reform Brady Practices in Utah: Requiring Prosecutors to Disclose All Favorable Evidence to the Defense.  Their article was published in the Utah Journal of Criminal Law, Volume 2, Issue 1.

The second article is from Jonathan R Hornock and Mariah L. Hornock, Giving Mental Culpability the Bird: How State v. Bird Secures the Presumption that Traffic Offenses are Strict Liability, recently published in the Utah Bar Journal.

UPC is always looking for guest articles that would be of interest to prosecutors across the state.

Creighton Horton has published a book about his experiences prosecuting for the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office and his time in the AG's office.  His book, A Reluctant Prosecutor: My Journey is available on Amazon.  To see a review of the book

In an e-mail he sent me this week he wrote,

"While the book touches on several of the major cases I handled during my years at both the DA's Office and the AG's Office, the common thread that runs throughout it is the importance of ethical and conscientious conduct by prosecutors.

Someone asked me recently who I would most like to see read the book, and I told them law students and prosecutors.

The website contains a lot of information to give prospective readers a pretty good idea of what the book is about, including a list of chapter headings, several reviews, an excerpt from the book, biographical info, and the like
